Vintage: 2015
Region: Herrenholz
Grape Variety: Grüner Veltliner Herrenholz

Vintage: 2015 began with a relatively late bud break during the second half of April. That was followed by heavy rainfall, but the early Summer temperatures already in late Spring fortunately spawned a normal flowering period. There was generous rainfall once again - at the end of June - which helped us get through an extremely hot July without any problems. The temperatures in August were rather moderate; the nights brought dew and the Summer was already over by the middle of August. A cool September followed – and this meant that the beginning of the harvest was delayed until the end of the month. The harvest was completed by the end of October. Grapes were picked very selectively in many vineyards, and in fact there were often several pickings. The grapes were riper than expected and as a result delivered very racy wines with intense fruit.

Soil: The grapes for the Grüner Veltliner Herrenholz come from the Herrenholz vineyard. The soil has a considerably high sand content, which influences relatively low grape yields, and a high chalk content, that nurtures soft, yet complex multi-layered wines. The vines were planted in the 1960s.

Vineyards: All of the grapes – grown in bio-Certified vineyards. After meticulous grape selection via hand-picking, then another selection through a fully automatic grape sorting system, the grapes Grüner Veltliner underwent a short maceration time before being carefully pressed. The pre-clarified must underwent cool fermentation and maturation in steel tanks; in order to accentuate the racy, fruity character as much as possible. Following a moderate amount of time on the lees the wine was finished and bottled.

Tasting notes: The wine clearly reflects the vintage, showing a powerful character with a well-woven Veltliner nose. On the palate it is elegantly, light and tasty with a vibrant acidity structure. Already as a young wine the Grüner Veltliner delivers much pleasure with its spicy, fresh character and makes an ideal companion for classic Austrian cuisine.
