Rolf Binder Winery Australia

The Veritas Winery was established in 1955 by Rolf Heinrich Binder. In 2005, on their 50th Anniversary, Veritas became Rolf Binder Wines. The winery tradition is now continued by Rolf's children, sibling winemakers Rolf and Christa, who were jointly awarded Barossa Winemakers of the year 2005.

Vintage
The Barossa experienced a wet winter followed by ideal spring conditions. Rainfall was moderate to high producing strong growth and good fruit set after flowering. From the middle to the end January the Barossa experienced extremely hot summer weather. This hastened the ripening process. During February and March the conditions were much milder, thus allowing the grapes to complete their ripening process.

 Wine Making

The 2016 Rolf Binder Riesling is made from grapes grown on the Eastern side of Eden Valley, which is recognized as one of the premium areas for Riesling in Australia. The fruit is delivered to the winery immediately after harvesting in the cool hours of the morning, then processed very gently through a tank press. Free run and pressing portions are determined by the winemaker. A Ratafia style wine is made from the pressings and the free run juice is used to make this wine. The juice is cold settled and 3 days later the clear juice is transferred into fermentation tanks. After fermentation is complete, the wine is prepared for bottling.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a pale straw colouration. It is crisp, elegant and traditional in style. It has a nose of fresh fruit salad, gooseberries and kiwi fruit, with traces of lemon and lime, which are characteristic of this varietal. The palate is smooth and fresh, with overtones of citrus fruits and ripe lemons, finishing with lemon peel and kaffir lime leaves. It has good depth of fruit, drying acidity and good length. Serving suggestions: Aperitif and white fish dishes.
